SMABA
After many years of helping small businesses implement employee benefit programs it became evident that these companies were facing challenges when it came to paying for health insurance. We decided to develop a strategy that would help alleviate the high premiums many small businesses had to pay.
The solution was to create a group health insurance association plan for members of the St. Matthews Area Business Association (SMABA). Developing and implementing the plan took several years and was a collaborative effort between The Benefits Firm, SMABA, and Anthem. As of January 1st 2010 the SMABA 1st Health Plan became available. This assocation now enables smaller companies to bind themselves together in an effort to spread risk and seek lower premiums for group health insurance.
